A security drone is an advanced surveillance technology used to enhance security across various sectors, including border monitoring, critical infrastructure protection, and urban public safety. Security drones are typically equipped with high-resolution cameras, thermal sensors, intrusion detection systems, and long-range communication, , these drones can detect and track suspicious activities over large areas in real-time. Governments and municipalities are currently investing in drone-based surveillance systems to strengthen civil security. Cominthesky’s drone engineering office has developed two dedicated security drone systems tailored to meet these emerging needs.
Super Eagle Security Drone : This drone system is a versatile security drone system designed for monitoring sensitive sites, open-air storage facilities, and large private properties. Its robust design and smart detection capabilities make it an ideal solution for high-risk zones requiring continuous aerial surveillance.
Flying Sensor Security Drone (FSS3) : This drone system is a specialized security drone system engineered for nuclear power plants and industrial sites with SEVESO classification due to potential environmental hazards.

Security Drone for Nuclear Facilities and SEVESO-classified Sites
In 2014, Edouard Guilhot, then CEO of Civic Drone, won a public tender with ILL (Institut Laue Langevin), a nuclear reactor located near the CEA in Grenoble, to deliver two customized Flying Sensor (FSS3) drone systems for the nuclear facility. he goal was to deliver 2 custom-made Flying Sensor FSS3 drone systems tailored for nuclear plant security. These drones were designed to support crisis management scenarios, such as the hypothetical cracking of the reactor’s containment structure. This risk was linked to a potential tsunami-like wave triggered by the rupture of an EDF dam located about 20 km upstream, which itself could be caused by major seismic activity along a fault line extending from northern Italy through the Alps.
Key Functions of the Flying Sensor FSS3 Security Drone
Autonomous, pre-programmed flights with no human pilot required
Automated delivery of multiple radiation measurement probes to various waypoints in a single flight, with sub-meter accuracy
Payload flexibility: the same drone can carry an alternative load to collect 4 atmospheric samples across different waypoints
Operates reliably under heavy rain and wind gusts up to 70 km/h
Flight range up to 10 km around the reactor site
Earthquake-tested: resistant to strong vibrations
Operational in magnetically active environments without flight disruption
Advantages of the Flying Sensor FSS3’s Gyrocopter-inspired Design
Unique gyrocopter-style design offers superior flight efficiency
Compact moment of inertia: all mass components are close to the center of gravity, ensuring better stability
Protected by two patented technologies
Can make contact with obstacles without damage when equipped with its protective shield
Low blade rotation speed (800 rpm) for quieter operation, making it less stressful in sensitive environments
Poised to break endurance records for this type of drone architecture
Fully self-reliant technology: no external dependencies, immune to cyber-espionage or remote hacking attempts
