Asian Hornet Nest Treatment by Drone

Asian Hornet Nest Treatment by Drone

The Asian hornet is an aggressive invader, dangerous for residents, devastating for bees, and responsible for exponential proliferation.
Invisible in 85% of cases because it hides in the canopy or high in trees, it can produce up to 3,000 individuals per queen each season.

Cominthesky provides a complete, modern, and extremely effective response:
detecting, mapping, and eliminating Asian hornet nests using drones equipped with thermal cameras, onboard AI, and specialized neutralization systems.

Our service is designed for municipalities, parks, wooded areas, cities, private estates, and all sites facing this growing threat.

Detection and Geolocation of Nests by Drone

High-Sensitivity Thermal Analysis

Nests are often impossible to identify manually, even for ground teams. To overcome this challenge, Cominthesky uses drones equipped with:

  • high-sensitivity thermal cameras,

  • a powerful onboard computer,

  • a high-capacity hard drive,

and proprietary artificial intelligence capable of automatically analysing each thermal image.

Each tree is scanned from 5 to 8 thermal angles, revealing even the most discreet nests, especially in wooded areas or tree-lined urban environments.
In a single day, several dozen hectares can be analysed with unmatched efficiency.

Centimetric Geolocation of Nests

Thanks to onboard RTK technology, our drones provide centimetre-level accuracy, delivering:

  • the exact GPS coordinates of the nest,

  • its height,

  • its orientation,

  • and a detailed description of its immediate surroundings (tree, building, sensitive area, proximity to homes or apiaries).

This precision ensures perfect positioning during the treatment phase.

Automated Mapping via Web App

Each thermal image validated by the AI is sent to our web app, which generates a clear and comprehensive map of detected nests.
It allows users to:

  • visualize nest density,

  • identify priority zones,

  • track interventions from season to season.

In most cases, this mapping reveals that only 15% of nests had been detected by humans before our intervention.

Nest Treatment and Neutralization by Drone

Risk-Free Intervention for Teams

After detection, Cominthesky deploys a specialized treatment drone equipped with:

  • a paintball-type system,

  • high-precision laser aiming,

  • and hornet-neutralizing pellets.

The drone positions itself precisely in front of the nest using centimetric geolocation, then neutralizes the colony within minutes—without exposing teams to stings and without unnecessary disturbance to the area.
This method eliminates the need for lifts, ladders, or hazardous human intervention.

Nest Removal and Incineration

Approximately 15 days after treatment, a follow-up mission allows us to:

  • detach the nest using plaster pellets,

  • retrieve the neutralized nest,

  • and carry out incineration according to environmental standards.

This operation ensures complete and lasting elimination, preventing any reuse.

An Effective and Environmentally Friendly Solution

Our technology helps:

  • limit impact on natural environments,

  • avoid heavy machinery in parks or sensitive areas,

  • protect bees and pollinators,

  • target only Asian hornet nests,

significantly reduce proliferation in affected zones.

A Service Designed for Local Authorities and Large Sites

Cominthesky supports:

  • municipalities and intermunicipalities,
  • departments and regions,
  • managers of parks, forests, and estates,
  • professional beekeepers,
  • private estates, golf courses, leisure bases, campsites,
  • wooded industrial sites.

Our missions enable us to:

  • cover several dozen hectares per day,
  • identify dozens of nests in a single wooded area,
  • treat all detected nests in a single operation when the perimeter allows it.

A reliable, fast, and cost-effective solution thanks to the efficiency of drones and AI.

Tailored Pricing and Support

Pricing depends on:

  • the surface area to analyse,

  • the number of nests detected and to be treated,

  • terrain complexity,

  • the nature of the site (urban, forest, private, etc.).

Cominthesky offers 100% customized interventions adapted to the reality of your territory.
