Processionary caterpillar treatment: an eco-friendly, effective, and sustainable solution.

Processionary caterpillars endanger our children, pets, and landscaping professionals with their highly irritating hairs, which pose health risks, particularly for those with respiratory issues. Manual work at height is time-consuming, costly, and risky for technical teams. Until now, traditional solutions have lacked effectiveness.

Our solution is non-toxic, safe for humans, and effective.

+300

processionary caterpillars per nest

A single tree can become a major health hazard.

"More than 120 nests identified this winter! The situation is getting worse every year. We are receiving worried reports from parents and dog owners. The health risk is real."

Our services

Goal: eliminate the dangers for good in an eco-friendly way.

We eliminate the threat immediately, effectively, and ecologically. Our drones are designed to surgically treat the threat as soon as it appears, before the processions begin.

01

Locating cocoons

The situation

Once a cocoon is detected in the middle of a forest or park, it is often time-consuming and difficult to locate again for treatment.

The Cominthesky solution

Our drone operates on trees where nests have been identified. Our team is able to scan an area to detect all pine processionary caterpillar nests in order to map them for subsequent treatment, ensuring none are missed.

The census also makes it possible to obtain more accurate quotes and to track statistics on the progression of this infestation.

02

Treatment using very hot water

The situation

Aerial work platforms are expensive, slow to deploy, and limited in terms of access. Personnel may be exposed without proper protection. Toxic solutions, even those based on biocides, damage the tree's biodiversity. Traditional solutions are often not very eco-friendly and rarely effective. Caterpillars can remain in their nests for several years before beginning their procession.

The Cominthesky solution

Our remote pilots use our Chickadee drone to position themselves at the height of the nest in order to inject our very hot water-based solution (over 80°C) directly into its core. This allows us to instantly and ecologically exterminate the caterpillars inside.

03

Monitoring and quality control

The situation

Measuring the effectiveness of traditional solutions is often difficult. Monitoring usually requires technical staff to travel to treated areas to check, tree by tree, whether the work was carried out correctly, generally without any guarantee of effectiveness.

The Cominthesky solution

To distinguish between treated and untreated nests, we have incorporated a light green, natural food-grade dye into our solution.

Each nest is treated and photographed, with photos uploaded to the web app, which your local authority can access to view statistics, verify the list of treatments by address and tree, or map the work completed.

Designed to curb the spread of pine processionary caterpillars

01

Increased proximity

For product injection directly into the heart of the nest, thanks to a highly stable and precise drone system and a custom-designed payload.

02

Extendable pole

Allows access to areas that are difficult to reach due to branches.

03

Agility

Accesses areas where cherry picker trucks cannot go (parks, backyards, steep terrain).

04

Operator safety

The remote pilot and assistant remain on the ground, at a safe distance from the stinging hairs.

Why switch to drone-based processionary caterpillar treatment?

Proven effectiveness

Unlike traditional methods, because processionary caterpillar nests are located at the tips of branches, they are all accessible by drone, allowing for the definitive eradication of the caterpillars directly inside the nests.

Budget savings

When considering the budgets spent by local authorities on pine processionary caterpillar treatments—which are often insufficiently effective for the cost—and the resulting year-over-year proliferation, the drone-based solution is highly effective, immediate, and offers better value for money.

Total transparency

Service is paid for controlled and efficient work. Local authorities: Each nest treated is photographed (before/after) and the proof is archived in your client portal on the web app, mapped out. Private individuals: Automatically receive a report on the same day with photos of the nests treated on your property, even if you are away. You will be notified of intervention dates.

Citizen response

With Cominthesky, use an effective, high-tech, fast, and eco-friendly solution to address a growing nuisance that is a concern for residents (schools, parks).

Frequently asked questions

Is the treatment dangerous for other insects and birds?

No, unlike most traditional solutions, treatment using very hot water surgically injected into the heart of the cocoons does not impact the surrounding wildlife in any way.

What is the maximum operating height?

Our Chickadee drone, dedicated to caterpillar treatment, can treat cocoons in any tree, regardless of its height.

Is it necessary to evacuate the area during drone treatment?

A simple safety perimeter is established under and around the drone to prevent any potential risk of it falling. The operation is quick and does not require closing off a large area.

How much does drone-based pine processionary caterpillar treatment cost?

The further apart the infected trees are, the longer the treatment will take; the more cocoons there are, the more time the work will require. It is best to analyze your situation or conduct a survey of your municipality.

Have other questions?
